SkipSations! Selected as One of 8 Semi-Finalists in USA Today’s Contest
Chapel Hill’s SkipSations! Jump Rope Team has been selected as one of 8 semi-finalists in USA Today’s contest to determine who will perform on Norwegian Cruise Line's next ship, the Norwegian Epic. The winner of the Search for the Epic Star contest will receive a free trip to the naming ceremony and inaugural cruise of the ship scheduled for July 2-4 out of New York City. The winner also will receive a full seven-day Caribbean cruise on the much-awaited vessel -- the line's largest and most elaborate ever. Team participate in regional, national and world competitive events in addition to performing locally, nationally and internationally. SkipSations! Jumpers (Wren Haaland, Suzanne Cash, Laura Engelman, Cindy Melton and Anna Schimmelfing) earned gold medals and were named World Champions in the 2006 World Championship Tournament held in Toronto, Canada. SkipSations! also represented the US National Jump Rope Team in 2002 (Silver Medalists - Anna Schimmelfing, Wren Haaland, Makenna Cash, Candace Hackney), 2004 (Silver Medalists - Anna Schimmelfing, Makenna Cash, Wren Haaland, Suzanne Cash, Candace Hackney, Will Futch), 2006 (Gold Medalists) and in 2008’s World Championship (Makenna and Suzanne Cash, Will Futch, Anna and John Schimmelfing) held in Capetown, South Africa with John Schimmelfing earning a Silver Medal.
