Skipsations Heading To Nationals
Even if March Madness didn’t turn out perfectly for the Tar Heels, at least one Chapel Hill team enjoyed last month.
March marked the beginning of a rigorous tournament season for Chapel Hill’s SkipSations! Jump Rope team.
Woollen gymnasium on the University of North Carolina campus was the site for the state qualifier jump rope competition for the national AAU tournament to be held in Virginia Beach later this summer.
All 21 SkipSations! Competitive Team jumpers, ranging in age from 7 to 19 years old, qualified to compete at the national level. They garnered a total of 56 gold medals, 31 silver medals, and 48 bronze medals in speed and freestyle events at the UNC qualfier.
Team practices began in September in preparation for tournaments. The team honed their presentation skills by performing at jump rope demonstrations throughout the Triangle, including halftime demos for UNC’s women’s basketball team and “Jump for Heart” exhibitions in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools.
In July, the SkipSations! will be competing in Orlanda, Fla., at the USA National Jump Rope competition, and at the World Jump Rope PanAm competition.
Some members of the team will then go on to Paris to represent the team in the World Jump Rope competition.
